Wedding Day Photography Timeline Example

All Blogs, Wedding Photography

One of the most common questions I get asked is how I put together my wedding day timeline. Your wedding photographer should work with you to assemble your day of timeline as each wedding day is unique. On your wedding day, there are a lot of things that can factor into your timeline. Here are some examples to get you prepared when it comes to creating your wedding day photography timeline.

The biggest part of putting together a wedding day timeline is knowing how much time is needed.

My wedding packages start at 8 hours as I feel it isn’t possible to document a full wedding day the way I would like or the way every bride deserves less than 8 hours. The only exception is an elopement.

When putting together a wedding day timeline, split your time evenly throughout the day.  You don’t want it to be heavy on pre-ceremony portraits, and you don’t want it to be heavy on reception photos. This is why I like to divide my coverage up evenly. I typically split my coverage where half is on the front end, and then the other half is on the back end of the day.

Here are two examples of real wedding day timelines with 8- hours of coverage. Times can be adjusted based on ceremony time.

If you plan to do a first look, keep in mind to allow at least an hour after the ceremony for family portraits while your guests enjoy cocktail hour.

I hope this helped with any timeline questions.
