Equestrian

Horses have been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. With experience across a wide range of disciplines— from English hunter jumpers to Western AQHA and reining— I have developed a profound understanding of the unique bond between horse and rider. Based in Rochester, NY, I have had the privilege of photographing horses all across the United States, capturing everything from intimate schooling shows to prestigious NRHA, USEF, and AQHA events. With over seven years of experience in the equestrian photography industry, I have gained a comprehensive perspective on the sport, and I am skilled at capturing its true essence. My lifelong passion for horses, combined with my hands-on experience riding from a young age, allows me to deeply understand the intricate nature of the horse’s movement and temperament. As an equestrian photographer, my goal is not only to capture the dynamic action but also the quiet, poignant moments that define your unique journey. I specialize in creating authentic, timeless images that highlight the strength, grace, and bond you share with your horse— moments that will last a lifetime.

My equestrian sessions are designed to be laid-back, enjoyable, and completely stress-free. Whether you’re looking for casual lifestyle portraits, elegant equestrian imagery, or horse show-ready shots, I’ll guide you through the process to ensure a seamless experience. You can prepare as much or as little as you’d like, but I do offer suggestions& guides to help you feel your best. Outfit changes may be available depending on your session, so bringing a variety of options—whether casual, formal, or show attire—is always a great idea. While professional hair and makeup are encouraged, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident.

For your horse, I recommend preparing as you would for a competition—clean, clipped, hooves polished, and tack looking its best. If your horse tends to have extra energy, a ride or lunge beforehand can help set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable session. Having an extra set of hands, whether a friend or trainer, can also make outfit changes and horse handling easier.

A great deal of work goes into perfecting these portraits, including extensive touch-ups to ensure your horse looks their best. Don’t worry about minor blemishes like scratches,or scars can be easily edited out at no extra charge!

However, editing can’t replace proper grooming. A clean horse will always result in the best possible image, so a thorough grooming session beforehand is essential. Clipping is highly recommended for a sleek, polished look, as I cannot remove a fuzzy coat in post-production. Additionally, clean tack is a must, as dirt and dust will be noticeable in the final images. Keep in mind that extensive edits may extend turnaround time, but my goal is to deliver portraits you absolutely love!

Each session includes a set number of poses for your horse, but if you have a specific shot in mind, let me know—I’m happy to accommodate special requests! If you have multiple horses, I can also create composite images featuring them together for an additional fee. Contrary to popular belief, my group portraits are actually created by photographing each horse separately and seamlessly editing them together. So, there’s no need to worry if your horses don’t get along or if space is limited—I’ll ensure the final composition looks natural and beautifully cohesive!

What if i have multiple horses?

My equine portrait sessions are designed to be relaxed, enjoyable, and stress-free. While preparation is entirely up to you, I highly recommend taking extra steps to ensure your horse looks their best—these portraits are incredibly detailed! I suggest preparing your horse as you would for a competition, including a thorough grooming, clipping, and a clean bridle. Clipped ears and muzzles aren’t required but are highly recommended, especially for black background portraits, as even small details stand out. Braiding is optional, but if you have the means, it can add an elegant touch.

Sessions typically take place in a barn aisle or covered arena if available. A clean, clutter-free setup is ideal, with lights off or barn doors closed if possible, though not required. Since the floor will be visible in some shots, a freshly swept area is best. Having an assistant on hand is extremely helpful for handling and adjustments. I recommend using your horse’s usual show bridle, with a simple metal snaffle being ideal, though figure 8s and other jumper, dressage, or western bits are welcome. Before the session begins, please remove the reins and attach a lead rope to the bit—this will be edited out later but allows for easy handling. And don’t forget to bring your horse’s favorite treats for the perfect finishing touch!
